Patches That Disappear Once the Paint Is On
Everyone has seen the DIY patch that shows through the paint as a raised square or a shiny halo. That happens when the compound is not feathered wide enough, or the patch is painted without primer, so it absorbs paint differently from the wall around it.
We feather each patch well beyond the damage, sand it flat to the surrounding surface and match any existing texture. Then we spot-prime so the repair does not flash under paint.
The result is a wall you can paint once and forget about.

Adjusters typically want before photos, moisture readings and a scoped, itemised estimate. We provide all three so your claim moves without back and forth.
Billing is normally to the homeowner, who is then reimbursed under the claim. If your adjuster or restoration contractor prefers another arrangement, ask us when you call.

How big a hole can be patched without replacing the sheet?
Almost any hole can be patched. Once a hole is bigger than about a dinner plate, we cut back to the nearest studs and install a new piece of board, which is still far less work than replacing a full sheet.
Will the repair be visible after painting?
Not if it is feathered, sanded flat and primed properly. The most common reason a patch shows is paint sheen, so we recommend painting the full wall after any repair.
How long does a typical drywall patch take?
Small patches are often done in one visit using fast-setting compound. Larger repairs need a second visit the next day for the final coat and primer.
Why do the same ceiling cracks keep coming back every winter?
Usually truss uplift. In cold weather the bottom of roof trusses moves upward and pulls the ceiling away from interior walls. The fix is to re-fasten the ceiling edge correctly and finish the corner so it can flex, not to fill the crack again.
Can you match a stipple or knockdown texture?

Is drywall damage covered by home insurance?
Sudden, accidental water damage such as a burst pipe is usually covered in Ontario policies, while wear, slow leaks and settlement cracks usually are not. Check your policy wording or call your broker before booking insurance work.
Do you repair plaster as well as drywall?
Yes. Much of Kingston's older housing is lath and plaster, and we repair it with setting compounds and plaster washers rather than premixed drywall mud.
